Jack Ma created Alibaba and became the world’s largest online eCommerce source by focusing on small businesses. His vision to help is not over and still wants to share the different ways in which he wants to help Canadian businesses, that are interested in tapping into China and its many opportunities. He states that Alibaba can create a lot of jobs in Canada, and he urges Canadian companies and firms to be bolder when trading with China. The conference was a great way to put inspiration and knowledge together, and hear professional tips from experts who have gone through it already.

Jack Ma’s main focus is marketing through the web. His focus is not based on other companies or investors, but on the clients by solely serving the people and their needs/wants. Everything is becoming more and more automated as the years go by, and soon enough the personalized products that fit each person individually are what is going to be on the rise. Due to the progress in our society on efficiency, the consumer has more than enough resources to attain what it is that they are looking for, therefore what now is considered “needed” in consumerism is the need for something unique; something personalized. This is why Jack Ma focuses on Small Businesses, because larger corporations think about products on a larger scale, and many times there is not much opportunity to specialize in one product and develop it or perfect it in different ways. Whereas Small Businesses are often more hands-on, and more specialized in one specific product, or unique in the making process of the product. However, knowing this, Small Businesses need to fully grasp the concept of eCommerce and online shopping, because it is on the rise, and many small businesses lack online presence in this area.

During the event, we had the pleasure of speaking with some entrepreneurs. Some brands such as Michi activewear and Knixwear have surpassed the $10 million mark in just about 6 to 7 years with the help of digital marketing, whereas other brands have only reached $2-3 million revenue after being in business for about 10 years with the traditional ways of marketing.
